What we mean by cookies
A cookie is a small piece of text that a website stores in your browser. Besides cookies, we use local storage, a similar storage area in your browser. The difference is technical; for your privacy it amounts to the same thing, so this policy covers both together.
Anything stored in your browser stays on your own device. We cannot read it unless you request pages from this site.
What this site stores
| Name | Purpose | How long | Consent |
|---|---|---|---|
nxt-cookieslocal storage | Remembers the choice you made in the cookie bar, so you are not asked again on every visit. | Until you clear your browser storage | Not required: without it we cannot honour your choice |
nxt-themelocal storage | Remembers whether you prefer the site in light or dark mode. If you choose System, nothing is stored. | Until you clear your browser storage | Not required: purely a preference you set yourself |
_ga, _ga_*Google Analytics | Measures how the site is used so we can improve it. Your IP address is truncated in the process. | Up to 2 years | Only with your consent |
There is nothing else. Fonts, images and scripts are all hosted on our own server, so nothing is fetched from a third party when a page loads.
What we do not do
- No advertising. nxtbit does not advertise, so there are no advertising cookies on this site and no category to give consent for. The advertising signals in Google Consent Mode are permanently set to denied.
- No profiles. We do not build a profile of you and do not track you across other websites.
- No selling or transfer. We do not sell your data and do not pass it on for commercial purposes.
- No social media buttons that track you. The links to LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook are plain links, not embedded widgets.
How your consent works
We use Google Consent Mode v2. When a page loads, everything defaults to denied. Only when you click "I agree" is measurement switched on and the Google Analytics script loaded. If you click "Essentials only", everything stays off and nothing is loaded.
The order matters: the "denied" default is set before any third-party script can load, so nothing is measured in the seconds before you make your choice.
Changing your choice
You can change your choice at any time: open the cookie bar again. If you withdraw your consent, measurement stops immediately.
To also remove what has already been stored, you can clear this site's cookies and storage in your browser settings. The site will keep working as normal; you will simply see the cookie bar again.
